2K Hires Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a more defined direction.
The president noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having spent the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving him next week. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
David
